Another Straight Skirt Debacle {Simplicity 1541}

Pattern:  Simplicity 1541
Version:  B Curvy
Sizing:  14
Fabric:  linen look-a-like; bemberg
Notions:  cotton-back fusible interfacing; invisible zipper; hook-and-eye; stay-tape
Instructions:  fine
Modification:  lining; stay-tape
Recommend:  either way

The positive of this pattern is that it has "true fit" options, meaning you can select for a curvy or slim shaped body.  I, of course, used the curvy version.  The downside of this pattern is there is no lining.  I crave linings and think most garments can benefit from them.  Especially when the outer shell is see-through.

To decrease the transparency of the linen fabric, bemberg was selected to accompany the summer skirt.  Since the pattern does not include directions nor the pieces for a lining, the pattern pieces were duplicated and attached at the waist band.  The waistband, while reinforced with interfacing, presented problems at the stitch line when attached to the skirt.  To avoid the ripples that were created, stay-tape was used to eliminate the seam stress.

All and all, this is a quick and easy skirt pattern.  While not my favorite straight skirt, it does offer nice curved seams and a kick-pleat.  I am impartial to recommending it to others, but the curved seams offer a different approach to fitting.  My favorite skirt pattern, in this silhouette, is still Simplicity 2154.
