Is there a lockbox on your thermostat that is guarded by a one person regime who insists the temperature not exceed freezing during the winter hours? Well, my house is always cold; and likewise, I am always cold. Over this last winter, I was inspired to combat the problem with cute little hand warmers that would keep my fingers free (for sewing of course), but the appendage toasty. I am happy to report this was the perfect solution. And on top of that so easy, even for the knitting challenged like me.
There are hundreds of free online patterns for hand warmers. The one I like best is from Purl Bee. If you follow the link however, you will see an obvious difference between the pattern and mine. Before I tackled the ombre version, I thought it best to start with a practice run (for us seamsters, that is a “muslin”). So, using the same needle size and similar yarn weight, I proceeded with the directions, only ignoring the changing of the yarn colors. I found the directions easy and loved working in the round. At first I was intimidated by the small needles, but I soon found that I could handle an entirely new world of knitting. I do plan on making more, maybe even the color blocked version, because it is the perfect solution for keeping warm and being able to stitch at the same time.
