Yoga Pants {Simplicity 2262}

I am short.  It is an inconvenience on most occasions.  Buying yoga pants is one of those occasions.  I put them on and they extend just under a mile from my foot.  An idea popped into my head.  “Why couldn’t I make my own?  I have to hem them anyways.” So, I headed down to the fabric store, searched for a pattern, and found one that looked like it would work (Simplicity 2262).  It did look really nice on the 20-something model wearing high-heels and bangles.  Medium weight knit in tow, I could not wait to get started.  I was going to look sweet with my new sports attire.

The instructions for the pants are so-so, a bit confusing, especially since the company labels it “easy-to-sew”.  Knit is always a little tricky to use since it stretches.  The sizing is a bit off in my opinion too.  That being said, I wouldn’t recommend not using it.  Just beware or be aware. Following the size guide, I used size medium purchasing 2.5 yards as suggested.  This was too much fabric by nearly a yard.  The pattern is easy to cut out, because there are only two pieces.

Make sure to sew one front leg to one back leg.  I wasn’t paying attention and sewed one back leg to one back leg. Opps.  After that little mistake, and wasted time picking the seam out, I was extra careful sewing the crotch together.  I used plenty of pins as you can see and made sure to ease the pieces together.   Be careful with the knit because it will stretch.

A fun thing I like to do on my garments is to add a "tag".  It is just a fun little element that finishes a project off just like a real store.  For these pants, it is nice because you can easily tell which way is the front.  I usually use ribbon in a fun color that goes with the piece of clothing.

To be honest with you, I am not a fan of this pattern.  I just don't like how it looks.  The torso is too long for me, making extra fabric in the front region.  I probably won't make this pattern again.  It was a great idea, but it didn't work for me.  I'll probably just make my own pattern using my favorite yoga pants.
