Recommend:  yes

What happens when you combined a good tv program, not paying attention, and black fabric?  One giant mistake!  Yep, this dress took me about two hours longer than it should have because I sewed the back to the front and the front to the back.  Not only did I complete this a simple stitch around the garment, I finished the seams off inside and was set to hem the skirt before I noticed the bust darts where on the back.

basting bodice lining in order to top-stitch
The top portion of this ensemble is made from white linen-like suiting which is of poor quality and transparent.  Hating the way it looked, I knew that to improve the appearance a lining was needed.  I cut two each of the bodice pieces, but only after I lowered the front neckline by an 1 1/4 inches. The lining help finish the arms and neck nicely and eliminates the need for binding.

The seams, sides and bodice, where finished off by encasing with the seam allowance.  Like the original post on this pattern, I basted the seam in place and then top-stitched on the right side of the garment to ensure stitching was straight.

The pattern calls for three sections: a top, middle, and bottom.  At first I thought I would cut the sections as instructed, but after referring to my post "Make it Mine", I decided to eliminate the bottom piece and extend the middle section.  This worked out wonderfully.

After much consideration, I have determined that I like the fit of my Blooming Blue Tunic and think it would have also captured this idea just as well.  One thing I dislike about this dress is the very loose fitting rear view.  I am certain that I will take Simplicity 1878 as a template and add back darts to this dress---just not right now.  If I remember correctly, I should have followed my own advice too and watch the proportions.  The dress seems rather long.  Along with taking it in with darts, I think it will be shortened to above the knee.
