So easy, so simple, this little day dress is perfect for a hot summer day. This year I have really been into using linen mixes when sewing. I love the look of the fabric with its variegated texture and the ease it is to sew. I've chosen linen mixed with cotton or rayon for the most part because it seems to cut back on the wrinkles. Pure linen doesn't stay crisp and I'm not one to iron too much.
This dress was made following the Simplicity pattern 1878. I had no mortification to my size 12, well unless you count using the seam allowance to give more room through my wide hips. You may want to check the ease before you cut your size. The extra inch I was able squeeze out turned out perfect, but you might not be so lucky if this is your "problem" area.
I have to confess. One night when my sewing machines where being fixed, I cut about four projects all at the same time. I didn't pay much attention to what I was cutting and how it would fit me. All but one of those project has turned out to have issues---issues with fit. I know better, but its so hard to be good all the time.
The pattern doesn't call for an invisible zipper but I used one. I love the look much better than typical zippers. I also finished it off with a button that came off a store bought shirt. I think it is fun to add the little bit of color in a complimentary shade.
I will more than likely sew this dress again. I might cut it bigger and use heavier weight fabric next time for a simple fall dress. Since I decided on the short-sleeve version which I love, I am a little hesitant on the long sleeves. I may just do a 3/4 length. Please check out my blog, maybe one day you will see a new version as well as a bit more on this dress review.
